CCAT was pleased to be invited to participate in the National Transport Commission's (NTC) Industry Forum in March 2024.

Alongside a diverse group of influential leaders from the transport sector, this Forum provided early engagement on a range of key transport policies. The event served as a platform for industry stakeholders to gain valuable insights into the NTC's initiatives aimed at fostering a safer, more productive, and sustainable transport system.

Carolyn Walsh, Chair of the NTC, welcomed attendees and emphasised the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges facing the transport industry. CEO Michael Hopkins highlighted the NTC's intensified efforts to engage with industry, unions, peak bodies, and the community to garner early insights into pertinent issues within the sector.

Ron Ben-David of Monash Business School and Hermione Parsons from the Australian Logistics Council provided a comprehensive overview of the macro and micro-economic challenges and opportunities shaping the transport landscape. Their insights laid the groundwork for discussions on strategies to bolster the transport sector's contribution to the national economy.

Internal experts provided a robust overview of NTC’s forward work program, shedding light on priorities spanning rail, road, heavy vehicles and automated transport. By outlining regulatory and reform agendas, the forum encouraged collaborative efforts to navigate the rapid pace of change within the transport industry.

The commitment demonstrated by industry leaders and regulatory bodies is an encouraging sign for the sector's ability to navigate the complexities ahead. In particular, CCAT recognises the importance of such leadership in the transition to connected and automated transport.
