Industry leaders unite behind Australia's transport future as connected and automated technologies gain momentum

As Australia prepares for the next generation of transport innovation, connected and automated technologies are entering a new phase focused on implementation, collaboration and community benefits.

The Centre for Connected and Automated Transport (CCAT) has unveiled a refreshed strategic outlook, reflecting the organisation’s growing national influence and stronger focus on delivering public outcomes through connected and automated transport.

This signals anew phase for CCAT; evolving from a primarily infrastructure-focused sector body into a national platform for collaboration, policy leadership and future transport engagement across government, industry, research and community sectors.

The updated strategic framework was unveiled at CCAT’s 2026 Annual General Meeting, which also highlighted the success of the 2025 National Future Transport Summit, which brought together more than 130 organisations from across Australia to develop a shared vision for the future of transport. The Summit’s 14 industry recommendations and the two-year collaborative process to agree them were a key driver for CCAT’s updated strategic framework.

CCAT Chair Ian Webb said the transport sector is now moving beyond discussion and into a period of practical implementation.

“The future of transport is not just about technology, it’s about people, accessibility, safety and better community outcomes,” Mr Webb said.

CCAT Executive Director Rahila David said the organisation’s refreshed outlook reflects a clearer focus on collaboration and public value.

“We are seeing growing recognition that connected and automated transport will shape far more than mobility alone,” Ms David said.

“Our updated direction reflects CCAT’s role as a national convener bringing together sectors and stakeholders to maximise the broader benefits of future transport technologies for Australia.”

The AGM also saw the appointment of four new Board members, further strengthening CCAT’s national leadership and cross-sector expertise:

CCAT is continuing to work with stakeholders across Australia to ensure emerging transport technologies deliver real benefits for the people who use our transport networks every day.
